ROBERT BREUSTEDT

Robert has written numerous humorous articles for newspapers and has had short stories published in anthologies and literary magazines. He is a member of the Borders Writers’ Forum, the Kelso Writers’ group and the Federation of Writers (Scotland). Robert loves to encourage emerging young writers, most recently from as far away as Australia. He has appeared on local radio here in the UK, in Majorca and in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the past he managed a hotel and award-winning restaurant and was recognized by the Hotel & Catering Industry Training Board for work in training and developing young trainees in all aspects of the hotel business.

He has worked with young adults for a number of years both in the hotel business and also as a church pastor with inroads into two high schools as chaplain, one with eight hundred and fifty pupil, the other with nearly fourteen hundred pupils. In both schools, he established weekly drop-in centres and twice had to move to larger rooms. In his schoolwork, he was always available to the students and staff to offer counseling or simply a listening ear.

He also had a leadership role in the Baptist Union of Scotland, part of which involved working with young adults. He worked with them in Scotland, encouraging them with trips to Europe and the USA. He was also the keynote speaker at a ten-day European Youth Congress attended by YA’s from a number of European countries. A lot of those attending have kept in touch.

Robert has always enjoyed working with, and encouraging, children and teenagers and challenging them to discover they may be able to be, and to become, much more than they ever imagined. The Pigeon Run is his first novel and its characters are based on an amalgam of the best and the worst of the countless teenagers he has known.
